NBCUniversal on Thursday said it has acquired DreamWorks Animation in a deal valued at $3.8 billion.

Under the deal, DreamWorks shareholders will receive $41 in cash for each share of DreamWorks stock.

The deal came together with breathtaking speed. The Glendale-based animation studio will be folded into the Universal Filmed Entertainment group, run by Jeff Shell.

"DreamWorks will help us grow our film, television, theme parks and consumer products businesses for years to come," he said."DreamWorks Animation is a great addition to NBCUniversal,” said Steve Burke, chief executive of NBCUniversal. “[DreamWorks CEO] Jeffrey Katzenberg and the DreamWorks organization have created a dynamic film brand and a deep library of intellectual property."
Katzenberg will become chairman of DreamWorks New Media, which will be made up of the company's interests in Awesomeness TV and Nova. He also will serve as a consultant to NBCUniversal.

Springing into Summer!

4/19/2016

Hey film and animation lovers - it's been ages since I've posted, mostly because I've been criss-crossing the world of start-ups and Silicon Valley as one of the newest card-carrying members of Nimble Collective in Mountain View, CA

Nimble Collective aims to turn the animation world upside down with accessible cloud-based technology that opens the animation world to previously untapped creatives by making software tools available as part of a cloud based app.  As part of the engineering leadership team, I'm supporting awesomely smart developers writing code in the cloud!

This transition means I'm back in Northern California and will be joining NorCal Siggraph and WIA teams - jumping into events and reporting on cool things far and wide north of the In and Out Burger in Kettlemen City!

Weekly posts are once again in the hopper, with a long anticipated interview series launching next week.

We'll get back to featuring equity weekly, jobs in media and film weekly as well as the odd inspiring personal story, quirky comedy idea and generally keeping tabs on who is doing what in animation and film.

Here's to Springing into Summer for 2016!
